Hebrews 5-6
I did an interesting study of Melchizedek with two Mormon missionaries who happened to be in my neighborhood. I have a branch of my family who belong to the Mormon church. Levels of maturity in the Christian faith are in question in these readings. How good are you at distinguishing good from evil (Hebrews 5:14)?
I still feel so naive. I want to believe the good in everyone.
Have a wonderful weekend...
I read 5:14 as meaning you can't mature and know evil or good until you have consumed it. Being babied, or shielded from the real world will not help, you must experience evil in order to recognize it. On thing small groups do, is allow adults to experience situations they would have never seen on their own. Reading about it is one thing, but experiencing it through a known group member is another.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to "consume evil". Experiencing evil has been eye opening, and it was not something I chose. It took moving out of my comfort zone. And - I find I prefer my comfort zone. Sometimes when I think about the fact that I choose comfort, it makes me sad.
ReplyDeleteWith small groups, you are not experiencing evil on your own, and that is conforting to know. Evil is a pretty broad term, but evil can appear as innocent as a temptation. Whether it is that cool pair of expensive shoes you just have to have or that Full HD 52" Plasma, evil is there. How can God 'deliver us from evil' if we don't recognize it when we see it?
ReplyDeleteSo-is that why Adam and Eve sinned in the first place? Because they didn't recognize it when they saw it? God must have known that would happen.
